PESHAWAR: Speakers at a national conference on the life and contributions of renowned Islamic scholar Syed Maulana Abul Ala Maududi on Sunday paid tributes to him, saying that he had authored around 120 books and numerous articles and treaties.

Scholars and intellectuals read out papers on different aspects of the life and struggle of Syed Maududi.

The two-day conference concluded here on Sunday at the Khyber Union Hall of Islamia College University.

In several sessions, the speakers shed light on the services and religious thought of Syed Maududi.

Dr Attaur Rahman, Dr Shamsul Haq, Shah Nawaz Farooqi and Mohammad Aamir shared their views with the participants.

They said that thoughts of Syed Maududi were guiding principles and asked the youngsters to draw inspiration from his enlightening writings.

Jamaat-i-Islami KP chief Senator Mushtaq Ahmad said that the powerful writings of Maulana Maududi triggered Islamic movements as his books and articles had been rendered into many world languages.

He said that Maulana Maududi was against the change brought through underground, masked and militant organisations.

He said that the maulana advocated social change through democratic, legal and constitutional ways and that he had also criticised western culture for being exploitative and oppressive.

“Syed Maududi was a true servant of Islam and wanted a society based on Islamic values to ensure justice, equality and peace,” he stated.

Inaugurating the conference on Saturday, KP deputy chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Inayatullah Khan had said that the Muslims all over the world had benefited from Syed Maududi’s thoughts.

He said that his ideas were relevant even today because he believed in gradual change and wanted to do away with the existing system.
