PESHAWAR: Speakers at a two-day national conference, which began here at Islamia College University on Saturday, paid tributes to Maulana Syed Maududi and said that he was a great scholar of international repute who had devoted his entire life to reshaping the Islamic thought and philosophy through his untiring efforts.

The participants were of the view that Maulana Syed Abul Ala Maududi was a revivalist and reformer. They said that Maududi’s thoughts would remain a guiding candle for the Muslims all over the world because his vision was beyond region and time-tested.

Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT), university chapter, has organised the two-day conference at Khyber Union Hall of Islamia College, Peshawar. Students, faculty members, IJT activists and scholars attended the event. Three sessions were conducted in which lectures were delivered on various aspects of life, political struggle and Islamic contributions of Syed Maududi.

Inaugurating the first day’s sessions, KP deputy chief of Jamaat-i-Islami MPA Inayatullah Khan said that the Muslims across the world had benefited from Syed Maududi’s scholarship and thoughts. He said that his ideas were time-tested and relevant in every age because he believed in gradual change and wanted to do away with the existing system.

Two-day moot begins at Islamia College University

Prof Dr Dost Mohammad, former director of Sheikh Zaid Islamic Centre, said in his lecture that Maulana Maududi had guided the youth on the right track in an imperialistic era and enlightened them on true religious path. He said that before independence, the Maulana was inclined towards Deobandi school of thoughts of religious clerics who had affiliations with the Congress and that was the reason that he left editing of the journal Al-Jamiat.

He said that Maulana Maududi had explicated in his writings the address delivered by Allama Iqbal at Allahabad and also showed the true face of religion Islam to non-Muslims and it was he who provided a clear explanation of the two-nation theory more than any other could.

In the second panel, discussion titled ‘the educational theory of Maulana Maududi’, JI deputy chief Prof Ibrahim, director Idara-i- Anjam, Anjum Jafri, and Suhaibuddin Kakakhel took part. They said that Syed Maududi was not in favour of separating worldly affairs from religion.

Director Area Study Centre Prof Shabir Ahmad Khan delivered a lecture on the freedom movement and Maulana Maududi. Peshawar university campus IJT nazim Awal Sher Khan and KP IJT nazim Shakeel Ahmad also spoke at the event.
