KARACHI: After a brief respite, Karachiites are facing another wave of cold weather as the westerly winds which entered the city on Monday evening continued to blow on Tuesday, pushing the mercury down to 11 degrees Celsius.

The Met office said the mercury could further drop to nine degrees in the early hours of Wednesday under the influence of the existing weather trend, which is likely to stay for the next three days. The overcast conditions would prevail throughout the day with chances of drizzle in the second half of the day.

The Met office said it had not received any reports of showers from any part of the city, but the winds turned stronger after sunset.

The officials said that the Siberian winds were wreaking havoc in Balochistan, where the weather conditions had turned harsher during the past couple of days and as a trickledown effect, Karachi was facing its impact.

“The current week is likely to remain cold like the last few weeks of December 2019 and this trend is likely to continue off and on through January 2020,” said the Met office spokesman in Karachi. “Right now, it seems that the temperature will go down to nine or even to eight degrees.”

Meanwhile, an advisory issued by the Met office said the upper Sindh regions would remain in the grip of dense to moderate fog during morning and night while temperature in those areas could drop to two to four degrees Celsius. The temperature in Dadu, Padidan, Larkana and Shaheed Benazirabad was recorded at two degrees Celsius while in Sukkur, Rohri and Jacobabad it dropped to one degree Celsius.
