KARACHI: The Institute of Space and Planetary Astrophysics (ISPA), University of Karachi, has made arrangements to observe the annular solar eclipse at the astronomical observatory on Thursday, ISPA director Professor Dr Mohammad Jawed Iqbal announced on Monday.

He mentioned that an annular solar eclipse will begin at 7.35am, reach its maximum at 8.46am and end at 10.30am. According to him, this spectacular event will last about three hours.

Professor Dr Jawed said that when the moon’s apparent diameter is smaller than that of the sun, blocking most of the sun’s light and causing the sun to look like an annulus (ring), it is called a solar eclipse.

The ISPA director added that students, faculty members, media and the general public are invited to witness one of the rare events of the solar system.
