KARACHI, Aug 15: Eight inmates of the Youthful Offenders Industrial School (commonly known as Juvenile Prison) were released while prison term of four others was reduced under the special remission granted by the president on the occasion of the Independence Day, it is learnt.
Those released include Mohammad Haneef (convicted under sections 380/457, theft), Liaquat Ali (U/S 13 D, illegal arms), Imran (U/S 379 / 14 theft), Irfan (U/S 3/4 narcotics), Habibullah (U/S 13 D arms), Imran (U/S 3/4 narcotics), Umair Pervaiz (U/S 3/4 narcotics), and Yasir (U/S 3/4 narcotics).
Those who benefited owing to the special remission and whose imprisonment was reduced are Rafiullah (convicted under section 3/4 for keeping narcotics), Irshad (380 / 457 theft), Arif (U/S 3/4 narcotics) and Hyder Ali (U/S 379 theft).
The sources said that the government’s directive regarding remission, which is granted under Article 45 of the Constitution, says that those convicted under the Foreigners’ Act 1946 and under the cases processed by the National Accountability Bureau would not be entitled to the remission.
