LAHORE: Fog, cloud cover and drizzle in some cities on Friday kept day’s maximum temperature low and closer to Thursday night’s minimum temperature in the plains of Punjab, further intensifying winter.

The cloudiness was caused by a westerly wave over upper parts of the country. It is likely to persist during the next 12 hours.

Lahore’s maximum temperature at the airport was 12.2 degrees Celsius as against its Thursday night’s minimum 5 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature in almost Punjab cities was recorded 15 or below.

The lowest minimum temperature was recorded in Skardu, Gupis and Bagrote (-8 degrees Celsius). This was followed by Astore, Kalam, Hunza -6, Parachinar -4, Malam Jabba -3, Gilgit, Rawalakot and Dir -2.

Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country while very cold in upper areas in the next 24 hours. However, dense fog is likely to prevail in plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh. Light rain-thunderstorm (light snowfall over hills) with cloudy weather condition is expected at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
