LAHORE, Jan 15: Four matches were decided on the opening day of the G Mueenuddin Memorial Cup polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club Tuesday.
Borjan beat Black Berets 6-5 with a decisive goal by Agha Murtaza in the extra
5th chukker. At the conclusion of the scheduled fourth chukker both the teams were tied 4-all.
For the winners, Husain Iftikhar, however, was the main scorer with five goals including a hat trick.
For the losers, Col. Talha struck three goals while Aslam added two goals.
In another match, Nee Punhal beat Musa Industries 9-4, with Haseeb Mehta scoring 4 goals, Usman Hayee 3 and Bilal Hayee completing the tally by putting in two goals.
For the losers, Shehzad Aziz slammed three goals while Khurshid Muhammad chipped in with one goal.
Rangers outplayed First Law 6-3 1/2 .
Lt. Col Talat Zia, Omar and Amanat each scored two goals for the victors.
The losers with an advantage of 1 1/2 on handicap, struck all the two goals through Mian Iftikhar.
In the last match, the lowly rated PIP Group stunned Guard Rice by 6-1/2-2.
The winners were playing with an advantage of 1 1/2 goal handicap. Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana scored three goals while Azam Hayat Noon added two goals.
For the losers, Taimur Malik scored both the goals.
