KARACHI: Forty-two emergency centres to enrol the left-out citizens as voters for the forthcoming general elections will start functioning in different parts of Karachi from Dec 16. The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting in Karachi yesterday [Dec 13] between the Election Commission officials and the Karachi Administration. During the discussions relating to the current enumeration of voters, Mr Mohammed Amin, Deputy Secretary Election Commission, represented the Commission with the Deputy Commissioner of Karachi, Mr Kunwar Idris.

The opening of these centres is intended to supplement the efforts of the election staff to cover the left-out areas so that each and every bona fide and eligible voter is afforded an opportunity to participate in the coming elections. The centres each headed by an Assistant Registration Officer will have a total strength of about 150 experienced enumerators. Fifteen vehicles will be kept at the disposal of the centres to promptly visit the left-out areas without any delay. In addition to this, 10 vehicles each fitted with a loudspeaker will go round the city to apprise the people of the importance of the coming elections.
