PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Thursday resented vandalism by lawyers in Lahore’s Punjab Institute of Cardiology and said the incident took place due to the negligence of the PTI government.

In a statement issued by the party’s secretariat here, Mr Sherpao demanded a judicial probe into the attack to punish culprits.

He said the situation would not have taken the ugly turn had the government taken immediate steps to defuse tensions and resolve the issue between lawyers and doctors.

The QWP chairman extended condolences to the families, who lost members in the incident, and said the PIC attack had exposed the incompetence of rulers to deal with such issues.

He said a judicial inquiry should be held to establish facts and identify those responsible for the deaths of innocent patients and the people’s inconvenience.

Mr Sherpao said it was the duty of the government to take precautionary measures to prevent such attacks.

He said the rampaging of a hospital by a large number of lawyers proved that the government didn’t have the capacity to handle things efficiently.
