MINGORA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz provincial president Amir Muqam has demanded of the government to arrest immediately the killers of Advocate Feroz Shah, a local leader of the party who was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Wednesday.

Talking to journalists after attending the funeral of his slain comrade in Damghar area in Kabal tehsil on Thursday, Mr Muqam said that government failed completely to provide security to people.

“How the culprits managed to escape after killing Feroz Shah and why law enforcement agencies failed to trace them,” he questioned. He said that killing of the political leader was a security concern.

“The culprits involved in the targeted killing must be brought to book,” said Mr Muqam. He said that PML-N would mourn the murder of Feroz Shah for three days.

He said that the targeted killing of the PML-N leader was alarming for the peace of Swat. “The PTI government must be conscious of the elements that want to harm the hard earned peace in Swat,” he added.

Mr Muqam said that two months ago the district education officer in Kolai-Palas Kohistan, Nawab Ali, was killed in his office but the government failed to arrest his killers. “This government has completely failed to address public issues and provide security to people,” he said.

General Officer Commanding Malakand Maj Gen Ijaz Mirza, PML-N leaders, a large number of the workers of other parties, civil society members, lawyers and local elders attended the funeral prayers of Feroz Shah.

FOOD ITEMS: The district food authority has claimed to have confiscated a huge quantity of adulterated food items and imposed Rs240,000 fine on shopkeepers found involved in adulteration and other irregularities.

According to a statement, a 10-day campaign was launched to control sale adulterated food items. It said during the drive, 80 kilograms of unhygienic meat, 32 kilograms of adulterated tea, 95 kilograms pulses and 35 kilograms mince were confiscated and Rs240,000 fine was imposed on the shopkeepers.

“Samples are being collected from food outlets on daily basis across the district and are being sent to for laboratory test. The initiative has been taken to ensure sale of pure and standard food items in Swat,” said the statement.
