Joint bank account

Published December 9, 2019

MY late mother and myself have a joint account in Islamabad with one of the branches of the country’s largest bank for more than 25 years. The operational instructions for the account were “either or survivor”. Since the account was not operated for a long time it became dormant.

It is now over one month since the required documents, like my mother’s death certificate, CNIC copy and prescribed forms duly signed were provided to the branch by me to activate the account and withdraw the nominal amount lying in the account

The matter has so far not been resolved as branch officials say that my late mother’s CNIC was wrongly fed by the bank officials’ oversight, therefore the account cannot be activated. I am beginning to wonder, on what is the use of a joint account with either or survivor instructions
