KARACHI, Aug 12: Five ships carrying containers, chemicals, seeds and iron ore were berthed at QICT, MPT and IOCB during the last 24 hours, according to a PQA press release on Friday.

Meanwhile, two more ships with containers and edible oil also arrived at the outer anchorage. Berth occupancy rose to 89 per cent as eight ships, Dubai, P&O Nedlloyd Cobra, Precious, Chemstar Brave, Sinar Sabang, Keefan, Energy Star and Washington Trader, were busy in loading and unloading containers, rice, chemicals, diesel oil, iron ore and seeds.

Cargo handling was brisk at the port where a total tonnage of 83,415 tons comprising 69,816 tons of import and 13,599 tons of export cargo was handled.

Sailing was active as Sinar Sabang, Chemstar Brave and Keefan left the port while Dubai and P&O Nedlloyed Cobra were due to depart.

Two ships, Jain She-35 and China Star, were awaiting their berthing turn at the outer anchorage.

Three ships, Sitakathrine, Gemini and Marwah, carrying diesel oil, edible oil and chemicals were due to arrive at port on Friday.
