ALIGARH: “I declare this foundation stone of the Auchinleck Institute of Military Training well and truly laid. May its founders prosper and all who have occasion to use it,” said Lt.-General Kenneth Morley Loch, Master-General of the Ordinance in India while laying the foundation stone of the Auchinleck Institute at Aligarh yesterday [Nov 25]. Referring to the military studies he said, “We should not approach our military studies with the idea of war as an inevitable and legitimate instrument of policy ... [S]uch an attitude may lead to substantial initial success, as indeed has been exemplified in the happenings of the last few years. History equally shows us that in this attitude lies the inevitable germ of failure, disaster, and of that grim twilight, which today is setting over Germany and to-morrow will just as surely spread eastward over Japan. These sinister ideologies are, however, not in our nature...”
