KARACHI, Aug 11: Berthing activity at the Karachi Port on Thursday was maintained on the higher side as the port agencies tried to clear the backlog owing to inward rush of foreign flag vessels.
Berthing was active as nine ships, Pontoporos, Xiang Rui Men, Phjoros and Guang Huaman, to unload and load general cargo, Hyundai Sprinter, Global Express, Y.M.Fortune and Kota Mesra, to unload and load containers and Ace-7 to offload oil were berthed after the departure of many.
Five ships, Thor Captain, APL Jeddah, Bunga Delima, Swat and Fareast Glory departed on Thursday, while Phoros, Elbe Oldendroff, Global Progress, ACE-7, Gokcan, Kota Mesra, Goldmar, Kota Tapan and Iran Sadr are due to sail out on Friday.
Cargo handling activity at the port was modest where a total tonnage of 63,679 tons comprising 12,503 tons of export cargo and 51,176 tons of import tonnage was handled.
The following ships are due on Friday: Al-Marwah, with chemicals, Corin Thaikos, with containers and Jumbo Challenger, with project cargo.
