Traffic mayhem

Published November 21, 2019

THE roads of Rawalpindi especially the stretch from Westridge-Saddar-Katcheri Chowk-Sawan bridge and DHA Phase II are in a shambles. The traffic density is increasing diurnally while the traffic management system remains abysmally inadequate to control the disorder let loose, especially during rush hours. Whether it is inadequacy of resources or the nonchalance of the traffic police is an answer best left to the police.

What remains, however, is the fact of increasing traffic gridlock with concomitant wastage of precious time and fuel besides a ubiquitous fear of collision amongst tailgating vehicles. Those who can effect policy changes to develop necessary infrastructure changes live in splendid islands of isolated affluence.

Things would only improve if the prime minister and members of his cabinet drive a vehicle on their own in this melee of traffic during rush hours.
