GUJRAT: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is engaged in consultation with its district chapters in Punjab as well as the Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir on the proposal of organizing the former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s anniversary in Liaqat Bagh, Rawalpindi, on Dec 27 instead of continuing with the routine of holding the even at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh.

Punjab PPP president Qamar Zaman Kaira along with party’s provincial general secretary Chaudhary Mamzoor Ahmed, senior vice president Aslam Gill and other executive members are paying organisational visits to various divisional headquarters of the province for consultation with party cadres.

The Punjab leadership of the party attended on Tuesday such a convention of the party office-bearers from six districts of Gujranwala region at the residence of former MPA Chaudhary Ijaz Samman who is also a provincial vice president of the party in Wazriabad.

Speaking to the participants of the convention, Chaudhary Manzoor said that this could be for the first time since the martyrdom of Benazeer Bhutto that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would visit the site of assassination of his mother for which the Punjab chapter and particularly the party cadres from Gujranwala and Rawalpindi/Islamabad divisions had to ensure maximum public participation.

He said the party workers would have to work hard for managing a gathering similar to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh.

Ex-MPA Asif Basheer Bhagat, also the president of Mandi Bahauddin chapter of PPP, suggested that the party chairman should spend at least three days in each and every district of Gujranwala and hold meetings with lawyers, traders, students, farmers beside addressing public gatherings to muster support.
