Careem harassment

Published November 9, 2019

IT IS ironic that Careem, a ride-hailing service, doesn’t take any action against captains who are not only playing with their name but would be the reason for a customer to stop using this service.

There are plenty of reported incidents where Careem captains took advantage of girls travelling alone. Surprisingly, even with the safety precautions promised by the companies, women tend to face some terrifying situations.

In haste for grabbing business these companies have not done proper screening and background checks on a majority of drivers.

All drivers working in Careem or such companies must put their name, CNIC number, car and police verifications in the car so that every passenger can see and record the information for security purposes.

According to the Sindh Consumer Protection Act, 2014, “a provider of services shall be liable to a consumer for damages approximately caused by the provision of service that have caused damage”.
