KARACHI: The Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA) has launched a massive public awareness campaign to promote voluntary blood donations in Sindh.

Director of the SBTA Dr Durenaz Jamal, while talking to PPI, said a massive public awareness campaign had been launched in different districts of Sindh with a view to promoting voluntary blood donation.

She said that the SBTA teams were conducting awareness programmes in Sukkur, Larkana, Shikarpur and Jacobabad this week.

She added that doctors, paramedical staff, nurses and the general public would be sensitised during the drive to increase blood donation.

She said that voluntary blood donation ratio in Pakistan, particularly in Sindh, was very low and only family members donated blood at the time of emergency.

She said the STBA teams had conducted a public awareness programme in Nawabshah recently where a big number of medical students, citizens and medical staff donated blood.

Dr Jamal informed that Regional Blood Transfusion Centre (RBTC) Karachi would be opened for public by the end of November and this centre would be run under a public-private partnership.

She said that citizens would be able to get screened blood in near future whenever needed.
