LARKANA, Aug 7: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has ordered registering cases against 106 former members of the defunct Larkana district council for allegedly misusing development funds.

A source told Dawn on Sunday that the chief minister during his stay in Larkana on Aug 3 had asked the DCO for registering the cases with the anti-corruption establishment.

A letter written by former EDO (finance) Yaseen Shar in February has been made the base of registering the cases.

An amount of Rs25,000 was allocated to each former member of the district council for carrying out development work in their respective union councils.

A sum of Rs2,650,000 was released for the purpose after the approval of competent authority.

Instead of spending the amount on assigned works, the former members kept it in their personal account.

The amount had allegedly been misused as it was not spent on undertaking development work for which it had particularly been released.

DCO Ahmed Bakhsh Khokhar being the chairman of the anti-corruption committee-II has reportedly written a letter to the deputy director of the ACE for registering cases and instituting probe into it in the light of Sindh chief minister’s orders.

Ex-nazims and members of the district council who had returned to the council on reserved seats might face the charges, the sources said.

The development may affect standing of ex-nazims and members of the district council who are at present in the run.
