JACOBABAD: The West Pakistan Governor, Air Marshal Nur Khan, today [Oct 26] gave assurance to the Haris that land granted to the landless peasants will not be cancelled for default in payment of instalments. In future, easier instalments will be fixed, he said. He was talking to a deputation of Haris on his arrival in Jacobabad today.

(The Governor earlier ordered that resumed lands which had been granted to tenants and had been cancelled for default in payment of instalments and were scheduled to be auctioned would not be auctioned now, according to official sources in Sukkur.)

The Governor also met deputations of students, teachers, lawyers and tribal Sardars of the area. Later, the Governor went round the town and visited the biggest development project underway here — the urban water supply scheme.

It is understood that the deputation of the students stressed the need for greater share of the people of the region in their administration and that the medium of instruction in the educational institutions should be the mother tongue. Other issues discussed were for disintegration of “One Unit”, recognition of Sindhi language as one of the national languages, more civic amenities for Khairpur, etc.
