ISLAMABAD: Dawn In Education Spelling Bee 2019 Regional Round for Islamabad started on Tuesday at the International Islamic University Faisal Mosque Campus auditorium.

The event will continue till Oct 25.

Contestants in the age group of 9 to 11 from 150 schools participated on the opening day.

This is the 15th Spelling Bee organised by Dawn Media Group for students of Pakistan. Regional rounds are conducted in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore while pool rounds are held in Skardu, Faisalabad, Multan, Hyderabad and Sukkur where teams from schools from all adjoining areas participate.

During the next three days, students in the age groups of 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17 from private, government and NGO- run schools will compete.

The two rounds in the competition were played by each team where students had to spell words asked by the pronouncer, David Purrington. The judges of the competition have been arranged by Oxford University Press while the venue partner of the event is International Islamic University.

Dawn in Education Spelling Bee is designed to help students enhance their vocabulary. The competition encourages children to gain competency in their vocabulary and allows them to excel at reading and writing.

The national round of Spelling Bee will be held among regional champions in Karachi in November.
