KARACHI, Aug 6: The District Coordinator Officer and Caretaker City District Government of Karachi (CDGK) Fazal-ur-Rehman, on Saturday, banned all heavy vehicles from entering the city during rush hours.
Heavy vehicles are “major causes of frequent fatal accidents, particularly during peak hours” and “general public has reacted violently against such incidents”, the caretaker said in an order, passed under Section 144 CrPC.
Under his order, heavy trucks, commonly dubbed as ‘dumpers’, would not be allowed in the city between 7 am and 1 pm and from 5 pm to 2am. Other heavy vehicles -usually run to fetch everyday supplies to the city- would be banned between 7 am and 9 am, and between 6 pm and 2am.
The ban comes into force from Sunday (Aug 7) for a period of 90 days, the order said.—PPI
