GUJAR KHAN: An ex-nazim of a union council was shot dead on Saturday morning allegedly by his opponents while two passersby were injured, police said.
Sohail Abbas, a resident of Kot Raja Ameer Ali Khan, reported to the police that he along with his uncle Raja Abdul Qayyum, the former nazim of Mohra Noori, and cousin Usman Ali had come to Gujar Khan city from Rawalpindi to attend the court proceedings of a case.
He said when their car was negotiating a turn in front of the THQ hospital at about 7:50am, Shahzeb, Babar and Yasir riding a motorbike pulled up a Kalashnikov and opened fir on them. As a result, Abdul Qayyum died on the spot while two passersby later identified as Asad Khan and Awais Tanveer sustained injuries.
According to sources, an old rivalry between the two families could be the motive behind murder. Police are investigating the case but have made no arrest.
