KARACHI: The funeral prayer for senior police officer Shahid Hayat Khan, who passed away a day before, was held at the Garden Police Headquarters on Wednesday.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Information Minister Saeed Ghani, Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar, Inspector General of Police Sindh Dr Syed Kaleem Imam, Karachi police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon, officials of the army, navy, Federal Investigation Agency, Intelligence Bureau, parliamentarians, trade and civil society representatives attended the prayers.

Later, the coffin was flown to his native town in Dera Ismail Khan for burial.

The IGP observed that the late officer had taken courageous and bold decisions, especially in his capacity as the Karachi police chief, in his career that spanned almost three decades.

Shahid Hayat had joined police in 1991. He had also worked in the FIA, Motorway police and the IB. He was appointed city police chief in 2013 when a targeted operation was launched against terrorism, targeted killings, kidnapping for ransom and extortion in the provincial capital.
