Coach-car collision claims eight lives in Chitral

CHITRAL: Eight persons died and 11 others sustained serious injuries as a result of a head-on collision between a passenger coach and a car near Raagh village on the Chitral-Booni Road here on Wednesday morning.

The hospital sources identified the deceased as Rahmat Hussain and his son Umar of Yarkhoon, Sarfaraz Laal of Yarkhoon, Mohammad Younus of Seen Lusht, Sohail Mirza of Charun, Ali Mohammad of Zezdi, Fazle Ali of Booni and Farman Ali Khan of Sonoghur.

The injured, including coach’s driver, Sajjad, and that of the car, Junaid were admitted to the DHQ hospital. However, three of the injured were referred to a hospital in Peshawar.

According to the police, the reason behind the accident is said to be breakneck speed of the car, which abruptly came before the passenger coach after overtaking another vehicle. He said the car driver had been booked for the offence.

The coach was going from Chitral city to Booni, while the car was coming from Barenis village to Chitral city.
