Sanam Saeed wants to know why Durj has been banned in Pakistan

"Why can't our independent out-of-the-box films like Durj be played?" asks the actor.

Sanam Saeed has some concerns about Pakistan banning its own films.

The actor took to social media to voice her thoughts regarding the film Durj which was set to release locally but had it's permission revoked.

"Why are films like Durj banned?" questions Sanam. "If Hollywood films with all their sexual innuendos and violence and dark topics can play in our cinemas then why can't our independent out-of-the-box films like Durj be played?"

Durj, directed by Shamoon Abbasi, is said to be inspired by true events revolving around cannibalism. It did not pass the provincial boards which, "viewed the feature film as per prevalent censorship rules and did not consider it appropriate for public exhibition in cinema houses."

We can't help but agree with Sanam, seeing as Joker is playing in the cinemas - very successfuly - but this this is the film that is considered problematic to the censor boards, despite Shamoon's claim that "It's a very sensitive film with no blood or gore, it’s not the type of film to be banned outright as such."

Durj will be released internationally. Here's hoping it makes its way back home soon.

You would've thought that after decades of trying unsuccessfully to enforce pointless bans, the state would finally have learnt its lesson...obviously not.

I will side with the censor board on this one. Our public is not ready to deal with what's being reported as being portrayed in this movie. Cannibalism. Wow. Has already been reported in the news in the past decade. Do note that USA itself can't control it's censorship under freedom of expression stupidity. The negative impact of this lack of censorship has resulted in grooming serial killers, con artists and all kinds of weirdos.

I agree with Sanam and the producer of the film that if there are some scenes objectionable, then, the board should provide details so they can cut those scenes. Banning whole film is not right. Makers of the film should be given reasons and opportunity to fix the issues.

The concept of banning in itself is abhorrent . Pakistan has phenomenal talent .It must find place in the world .

Watched it last night in a theater in the US. Nicely made movie and the filming locations are superb.

How's a censor board even relevant in today's internet age? It's an obselete agency and a waste of tax payers money. A ratings system based on age groups should be the standard. People should be free to make their own decisions about what they want to see.
