LAHORE: Rail traffic towards the down-side of the main line was disrupted for several hours after five wagons of a coal-laden goods train derailed near Mirpur Mathelo Railway Station on Monday.

According to an official source, a relief train and a rescue truck were immediately dispatched to the derailment site. However, it took hours to remove the derailed wagons from the track and despatch the goods train, which had moved from Yousafwala (Sahiwal), for Karachi.

“Various trains, including Awam and Hazara, were stopped on the way at various stations, leaving a number of passengers stranded for hours,” the source told Dawn.
