ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Army on Friday said three officers of the rank of major were dismissed from service after being found guilty of misconduct, two of whom would additionally undergo two-year rigorous imprisonment.

The sentences were announced in a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations. Names of the officers were, however, not made public.

They faced charges of misuse of authority and involvement in illegal acts that were said to be unbecoming of a military officer.

The public affairs wing of the military said the three were “found guilty” of charges against them. Following the court martial proceedings, the punishment of dismissal from service was imposed on them.

Two of them were additionally sentenced to “rigorous imprisonment for two years each”.

Earlier in August, an officer was dismissed from service and awarded life sentence.

The ISPR had on the occasion observed that the sentence showed that “institutional accountability system” of the Pakistan Army was effective and functional.

In May, a former army officer, retired Brigadier Raja Rizwan, and a civilian official of a military institution, Dr Wasim Akram, were sentenced to death and a 14-year jail sentence was given to retired Lt Gen Javed Iqbal for espionage.

Those officers were tried under the Pakistan Army Act and Official Secrets Act.
