MANSEHRA: The students of government high school, Doar Mera in Torghar, took to the streets on Tuesday against the shortage of teachers.
“The school’s administration started 9th grade classes without first appointing the teachers,” Mohammad Qasim, a protesting student, deplored.
Qasim said the government had upgraded the government middle school, Doar Mera, and also started regular classes, but the required teachers were not yet appointed.
The students blocked the Doar Mera Road to traffic by placing rocks and setting tyres on fire. They were also chanting slogans against the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government, which according to them, claimed championing education reforms, but did nothing on the ground.
The traffic remained suspended for hours because of the blockade of the road and passengers travelling between Doar Mera and Judbah, the district headquarters of Torghar, suffered.
“We will block this road for an indefinite period after two weeks if teachers are not appointed to the school,” Shah Nawaz, another student, warned.
