BAHAWALNAGAR: Haroonabad police on Sunday rescued six members of a family, including four minor children, from the illegal detention of a landlord.

The family had allegedly been detained as bonded labour for 12 years by landlord Chaudhry Saleem Nawaz Bandesha at his lands at village 185/7R, Khichiwala.

According to police sources, the Bahawalnagar DPO on a tip-off directed the Haroonabad police to raid the landlord’s property and release the detainees. A heavy contingent of police recovered the family and arrested the landlord.

Those rescued include 40-year-old Muhammad Jamil, his wife Sajida and four children. Jamil said the landlord did not allow them free movement and even denied them basic facilities like water and food.
