Narrow win for National Stars

PESHAWAR, Aug 1: National Stars, Swat Green, Swat Red, Swat XI Fatehpur, XI Stars, Shining Stars, Swat Club and Comber XI booked berths in the quarterfinals of the 14th District Swat Inter-club hockey championship at Swat Sports Complex on Monday. National Stars shocked Daily Islam by 1-0 while Comber XI defeated Green Stars 3-1.

After a barren first-half, National Stars took the lead in the 53rd minute through Attaullah on a penalty corner. In another match Comber XI defeated Green Stars 3-1. Green Stars were put ahead in the 7th minute through centre-forward Tariq Khan to which Comber replied with an 11th-minute goal through Ismail Khan to tie the score at 1-1.

Ismail slammed another converting a penalty stroke by Sajjad Khan to make it 2-1. Ghaffar Khan scored the third for Comber. Swat Green will face Swat XI Fatehpur in the first quarterfinal on Tuesday.—APP
