APROPOS the editorial ‘From English to Urdu’ (Aug 28). I appreciate the Punjab government’s decision to have Urdu as a medium of instruction up to fifth grade. After that from sixth upto the 10th grade, English should be taught as a compulsory subject so that those students who go to college can understand science and math. That is how it was in the 1950s.

The best thing would be if all private schools including Aitchison College and Karachi Grammar School were also required to adopt the same pattern. But for that, you need a very bold political leader.
