PIA affairs

APROPOS the article ‘Nearly 1,000 ‘surplus’ PIA employees laid off’ (Aug 31).

The only viable solution to Pakistan International Airlines financial problems is to hire technically qualified aviation experts. It is shocking to note that passengers travelling from Canada and Europe pay a hefty amount in fares and in return do not even get the basic requirements of a long haul flight.

No signs of improvement have been noticed for the past year as far as customer mandatory requirements are concerned.

On the employee’s level, a very dark picture has been portrayed. Allowances and salaries have been delayed for crew members and flight duty timings have been increased from 12 hours to 19 hours which is a clear violation of international aviation safety standards.

This is extremely hazardous for the safety of passengers and crew members.
