KARACHI: A couple and their minor son were killed in a road accident in Qayyumabad on Wednesday, Korangi Industrial Area police, hospital and rescue services said.

They added that a man was riding a motorbike with a woman and a child, who was sitting in front of him. The motorbike slipped in C-Area of Qayyumabad and an apparently speeding truck ran over them.

The couple and child sustained critical injuries and were transported to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced the woman and the child as dead on arrival, said Dr Seemin Jamali, executive director of the JPMC.

The man died during treatment soon after arrival. He was identified as Mohammed Jamil, 30. Dr Jamali said that the child was around six years old.

Area SHO Ubaidullah Khan said that the incident occurred at around 1.30pm near the pedestrian bridge at Qayyumabad.

The driver of the Mazda truck, identified as Mohammed Atif, was arrested and the vehicle impounded.

The police officer said that so far no one had approached the police to claim the bodies of the three victims.

The bodies have been kept in the cold storage of Chhipa for claimants. A Chhipa spokesperson told Dawn at night that so far no one had visited their office to identify and claim the bodies.

Late at night the name of the woman was identified as Amina and the child as Mohammad.
