UPPER DIR: The Upper Dir police claimed to have killed a proclaimed offender in an encounter on Friday.

District police officer Mian Naseeb Jan said the police learnt about the presence of the proclaimed offender identified as Shad Mohammad alias Shamai in the area. He said the offender was wanted in a number of cases, including murders, kidnapping and others. The DPO said a police party headed by SDPO Farman Khan raided a hideout to arrest him and his other accomplices at nighttime. He said the outlaws opened fire on the police instead of surrendering.

Mr Jan said the offender was killed in exchange of fire, while his two other accomplices were injured and later arrested along with 10 other persons.

The DPO said arms, including a Kalashnikov, rifles, rounds, two cars and a double-door vehicle were also recovered.
