The Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing has arrested two individuals in Karachi in response to a complaint by a woman that the suspects were harassing her through "objectionable" pictures and videos, it emerged on Thursday.

The suspects were arrested when a team constituted by Deputy Director CCW Karachi conducted raids in Karachi's Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Gulistan-i-Jauhar areas under the supervision of Inspector Naeem Awan.

A case was registered by Sub-Inspector Sabeen Ghouri against both accused under Sections 20 (offences against the dignity of a natural person), 21 (offences against modesty) and 24 (cyberstalking) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca), 2016, read with Sections 109 and 419 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to FIA Deputy Director Cyber Crime Wing Karachi Abdul Ghaffar, the raids were carried out after the technical and investigation team of the case successfully identified the accused.

Ghaffar told Dawn that according to initial technical analysis of the digital and social media of both suspects, it had been found that they had stored and circulated the victim's images over social media, messaging apps and websites.

One of the suspects is also accused of physically harassing and abusing the victim repeatedly by threatening to leak her images and videos.

Whereas, the other suspect also allegedly extorted Rs87,000 from the victim. The FIA says that the sum was paid to the suspect via online money transfer.
