KARACHI, July 31: All necessary arrangements have been made in Orangi Town to meet any emergency in view of imminent rains. The Caretaker of Orangi Town, Qamar Sheikh, said this during a meeting with a delegation of heads of social and welfare organisations of the area at his office on Sunday.

The delegation apprised the caretaker about the services being rendered by their organisations in Orangi Town.

Referring to the localities of the poor and middle classes, Mr Sheikh said some of these people lived right next to storm-water and other drains and some on high hills, adding that they were exposed to greater risks during the rainy season.

In view of heavy rain forecasts, he underlined the need to make these people aware of the situation.

He said it was their collective responsibility to ask these people to make prior arrangements or residence at alternative places in order to avoid any untoward incident during the rainy season ahead.

The caretaker said the Orangi Town Administration had established a complaint centre for quick redressal of people’s problems.

He said relief and medical camps were also being planned with the cooperation welfare activists.

All NGOs of the area assured him of full cooperation in that regard.

The heads of NGOs led by Deputy District Officer Social Welfare, Anwar Alam, also visited the town’s central complaint office and lauded the efforts made by the town administration.—APP
