LAKKI MARWAT: Around 50 flood and rain-affected people were given compensation cheques at a function here on Tuesday.

Deputy commissioner Jehangir Azam Wazir along with assistant commissioner Nadir Shazad Khan and district nazim Iqbal Hussain Advocate distributed the financial assistance worth over Rs4 million.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Wazir said that the losses the local residents suffered during torrential rains and flash floods were irreparable but financial assistance provided by the provincial government would help them in rehabilitation process.

Assistant commissioner Nadir Shazad Khan, who also holds the office of district disaster management officer, said the administration would make all-out efforts to reach individuals affected by calamities and take appropriate steps for their rehabilitation.

“The administration and all organisations under its control are fully alert to cope with any emergency situation during downpours and flash floods,” he claimed.

The district nazim called upon people to help one another during rains and floods and extend assistance to government departments in rescue, relief and rehabilitation activities.

SECURITY FOR MUHARRAM: Lakki Marwat district police officer Qasim Ali Khan paid a visit to the main Imambargah and routes of Muharram processions in Lakki city on Tuesday.

SP investigations Shafiq Wazir, DSP Hidayatullah Shah and other police officials accompanied him.

The district police chief checked security arrangements and deployment of cops at Imambargah and told the officials to put in place all available resources for peaceful observance of 10th of Muharram.

He said a foolproof security plan would be formulated to maintain peace and harmony during Muharram.

Mr Ali directed subordinate officials to install additional close-circuit television cameras on the routes of procession and in and around Imambargah.

He also met members of peace committee and appreciated their role with regard to maintenance of peace during the holy month.
