LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency on Monday arrested a Haj tour operator allegedly for defrauding a Canadian woman of Pakistani origin.

According to FIA Lahore spokesperson Altaf Gohar Wattoo, Attiquer Rehman of Ashar and Wania Travels received Rs2.3 million from Ms Robina Kausar for making Haj travel arrangements for her and her two daughters. He said the suspect after receiving the money fled away.

During investigation, he said, it transpired that the suspect was involved in human smuggling.

On Monday, an FIA team headed by Deputy Director Haider Abbas arrested the suspect in Islamabad and recovered the money.

FIA Lahore Director Waqar Abbasi handed over the amount to Ms Robina Kausar.
