MULTAN: Contrary to the tall claims made by the authorities of the district administration and the Multan Waste Management Company (MWMC) regarding maintaining cleanliness during Eidul Azha, the people termed the arrangements poor as the authorities failed to timely dispose of offal and other waste of sacrificial animals in parts of the city.

The institutional response appeared to be slow as foul odour emanating from the waste of sacrificial animals continued causing inconvenience to the citizens.

The common people too had a part to play in this mess. In the congested areas, they slaughtered animals in their houses or narrow streets and blood was seen coming out and spreading in the streets while piles of animal wastes could be seen in the open spaces besides on the streets and the roads.

During a survey conducted by Dawn of Madina Colony, Walled City, Kari Jamandan, Nasirabad, Nazimabad, Lohar Colony, Chand Mari, Niaz Town, Purana Shujabad Road, Daira Wasti, Bhutta Colony, Shah Khurram, Wasti Khanpur, Mohallah Ghulam Abad, New Central Jail Road, Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture Road, Mohallah Qasabpura, Mohallah Matam Wah, Mohallah Faisalpur and areas adjoining to Pul Shedi Lal, the people complained that the authorities had neglected these areas for cleaning. They said they had not seen any staff collecting or shifting the waste as the discarded parts of animals were seen scattered around, causing stink.

Chief Whip National Assembly Malik Amir Dogar and Punjab Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Culture Nadeem Qureshi; however, congratulated the Deputy Commissioner Aamir Khatak for making exemplary arrangements to keep the city clean during the Eid days.

In his audio massage, Mr Dogar said that due to monitoring by the officers of the district administration, the cleanliness plan devised by MWMC Chief Executive Officer Ameer Hasan Qureshi and all managers of the company remained successful.

“We, from the core of our hearts, extend our gratitude to entire administration,” Mr Dogar said.

During the visit to his constituency, Mr Qureshi appreciated the efforts of the DC while saying that he was happy to see the exemplary cleanliness.

The DC also lauded his team, the MWMC administration and its workers for making proper arrangements to keep the city clean.

Mr Qureshi said the company had collected 4,114, 3,638 and 2,601 tonnes on three days of Eid, respectively.

“The city is clean now of the animal waste and the areas where the people are complaining of waste are located outside the 58 union councils. The routine collection of waste would start from tomorrow (today),” he added.
