Journalist Iqbal Jafari passes away

LAHORE: Former journalist Syed Iqbal Hussain Jafari, who died of a cardiac arrest on Saturday, was laid to rest in Rawalpindi. He was 84.

Mr Jafari started his career from the Civil and Military Gazette. Later, he joined Star in Hyderabad and finally came to work with The Pakistan Times from where he eventually retired as an assistant editor.

Mr Jafari did his MA in English and passed the Central Superior Services exam. However, he was not selected for service because of his progressive ideas.

He has left behind a widow, a son and a daughter.

Mr Jafari was the son of Syed Karamat Hussain Jafari and brother of Marxist intellectual Syed Shafqat Hussain Jafari.
