RAWALPINDI: A suspect wanted by the police in different cases, including for attacking and injuring a constable in Sadiqabad three days ago, was on Friday killed in an ‘encounter’ with the police at Kahuta.

However, the police claimed that the suspect, who was the alleged ringleader of robbers and also involved in incidents of terrorism, was shot dead by his own accomplices.

Following information that the suspect, identified as Ammar Satti, was present in Kahuta’s Alyot area, the Kahuta and Sadiqabad police devised a joint strategy to arrest him along with his accomplices, SP Saddar division Rai Mazhar Iqbal was quoted as saying by a police spokesman.

The spokesman said the police arrived in Alyot and erected a barricade. In the meantime, the police spotted four suspicious people riding two motorbikes.

When the motorcycle riders were signaled to stop, they resorted to direct firing at the police. The police officials hid themselves behind trees and their vehicles while the suspects continued firing.

As a result of the firing, one of the suspects died from the bullets of his accomplices. The dead man was later identified as Ammar Satti, the ringleader of the notorious Dacoit Gang, said the spokesman. However, none of the police officials sustained injuries.

He said the suspect had shot and injured constable Osama Haider of Sadiqabad police three days ago who is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Satti had been booked in various cases of heinous nature, including under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), in various police stations, the spokesman said.

City Police Officer (CPO) Mohammad Faisal Rana directed the police to arrest the accomplices of the suspect.

On Thursday, the police claimed that the suspects who shot and injured the constable had been identified as Husnain Gujjar and Ammar Satti.
