ISLAMABAD: The police arrested four drug suppliers and recovered narcotics from them here on Wednesday, sources told Dawn.

The drug suppliers were operating from a vicinity of a shrine for the last couple of months, the police said, adding the arrest was made when the suppliers were transporting the drug from Peshawar to Islamabad in a car.

It was a sheer coincidence that a police team at a picket, set up at Dharek Mohir intercepted a vehicle on suspicion. During a search, the policemen found parcels in the boot and inquired about it from the vehicle riders, but their reply was unsatisfactory.

When the policemen opened the parcels they found drugs. The police took four people into custody and shifted them to Golra Police Station for further legal action.

The quantity of drugs was 3.3 killgrams worth Rs10.6million.

During preliminarily investigation, the suppliers told the police that they were operating in capital from the vicinity of a shrine.

It is suspected that the drug suppliers were also involved in inter-provincial smuggling of drugs, the police said, adding the police also recovered passports from the arrested persons with valid visa of an Arab country, and suspected that they were planning to smuggle the drugs abroad.
