ISLAMABAD: Secretariat police have arrested 10 people fo\r swimming in Rawal Dam despite imposition of Section 144 by the district administration.

A police official, who is not authorised to speak on record, said usually people are stopped from bathing or are released on personal surety bonds.

“However every year Sector 144 is imposed before the start of monsoon because water level suddenly rises, and over the years a number of people have drowned in the dam. All 10 people were arrested and a first information report (FIR) was registered against them,” he said.

“Following the registration of the FIR, the nominated persons were shifted to Adiala jail; they will have to file bail applications in the court today (Monday),” he said.

The police official said additional personnel have been deputed at Rawal Dam to stop people from swimming in the water. However, he added that people should avoid going into the water as it can be dangerous.
