PESHAWAR: About 84 persons are feared to have been killed in three separate unfortunate road accidents in Lowari Pass (10,500 feet) and other passes midway between Dir and Chitral during last one week according to delayed information received here today [July 8]. The accidents had occurred due to breakdown of vehicles machinery or failure of brakes on narrow curves of Lowari top Ziarat road and Kamrani passes.

One full-loaded bus is stated to have fallen about a thousand feet deep... The ill-fated bus met the accident near Kamrani Sara Pass. The bus slipped when in full speed on the roadside. It was smashed badly and about 50 to 55 villagers travelling in it are stated to have been killed.

A jeep accident also took place in Lowari Pass. Some 30 people were [travelling in a] single jeep which was proceeding from Dir to Chitral. They had removed the back seats of the jeep and made a wooden platform with ropes tied round it. Passengers were sitting on the platform when the jeep failed to turn on a sharp curve and fell below in deep ravine. Those killed are stated to number above 25.

In the third accident a truck was involved... Four persons are believed to have died while three were seriously injured. The driver of the truck escaped injuries. — Correspondent
