KARACHI: Police on Monday claimed to have arrested three suspected drug peddlers, including two women, after a raid in Defence Housing Authority, during which a policeman was also injured.

Acting on a tip-off, Gizri police raided a place in Muslim Commercial, Phase VI, of DHA and arrested Zohaib, alias Builder, according to South SSP Sheeraz Nazeer.

The officer identified the held suspect as a “notorious drug dealer”.

The suspect allegedly resisted his arrest and injured a policeman, Sanaullah, who was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.

The police also arrested two young women during the raid and seized contraband from their custody.

The police seized 1,030 grams of charas, 10 grams of ice and a hand grenade from Zohaib and five grams of ice each from Saleen Khan and Aliza Tariq.

The SSP said he believed that Zohaib was the “main supplier” of ice, hashish, pills and other drugs in Defence. The held women also supplied drugs to parties and educational institutions in the area.

All held suspects were “educated and rich” persons, he said.

The police have registered a case against them under different sections of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act and the Explosives Act.

Sheeraz Nazeer said the police had launched a crackdown on drug dealers in the Defence and Clifton areas and two other such peddlers were also arrested recently.

SSP Nazeer said that this gang supplied ice, ecstasy pills, marijuana and charas in DHA to parties, schools and universities.

“Their victims include girls and teenage boys,” said the officer.

The suspect made tablets and has been involved in the drug business for the last several years. He was also wanted in drugs, murder and robbery cases and was out on bail.

Zohaib was also a member of big health clubs where he used to provide pills and ice to youths. His targets were children of rich families, whom he lured to parties and turned them into addicts, the officer added.
