LAHORE: Pakistan Railways (PR) has almost finished work on refurbishment of three rakes for Sir Syed Express that is being launched during the first week of next month.

The operation of this new passenger train will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan, according to an official source.

“A total of 42 coaches have been refurbished — 33 at the PR’s Lahore Mughalpura workshop and nine at Islamabad carriage factory. At present, finishing work of the coaches is under way since the rakes are to be handed over to the respective PR’s division by end of this month,” the official told Dawn on Tuesday.

He said thousands of workers participated in refurbishment of the old passenger coaches. And hopefully, they are expected to get bonus from the PR management for finishing work within a short span of time. “After this train, the PR will not have coaches for further new trains,” he added.

UCs: Deputy Commissioiner Saleha Saeed on Tuesday started [monitoring] visits to the union councils in connection with ensuring timely issuance of birth, death, marriage and other certificates to the people. “There should be no delaying tactics in issuing the certificates to the people,” Ms Saeed warned the officers while visiting a UC office in the city.
