HYDERABAD, Jan 13: The city police arrested eight activists of sectarian and jihadi outfits from various parts of the city and Latifabad on late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

Police also sealed the offices of various militant and religious organizations in the wee hours of Sunday.

During a raid at the office of the Harkatul Mujahideen police picked up an activist and during a raid at the office of the Lashkar-i-Taiba three activists were picked.

The offices of the Jaish-i-Mohammad and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen located on Tilak Chari and near A-one Hotel respectively were sealed.

The Pinyari police picked up four activists of the Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan from different areas on late Saturday night.

The police also sealed the offices of the Tehrik-i-Jaferia Pakistan in Tando Jehaniya and in Sadat Colony, Unit No9, Latifabad. The offices of the Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan in Liaquat Colony and Unit No5 were also sealed.

Meanwhile, the police did not bring the arrests of religious party activists on record so far. They were being detained at various police stations, police sources said.

Our Nawabshah correspondent adds: Crackdown continued against the activists of banned organizations following the speech of President Gen Pervez Musharraf.

Police sealed the offices of the Tehrik-i-Jaferia Pakistan, the Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, the Lashkar-i-Taiba, and the Jaish-i-Mohammad.

Police arrested activists of the Tehrik-i-Jaferia Pakistan including Mustijab Hussain Zaidi, Ghulam Hyder Zardari, Ali Gohar Shah, and Sajjad Mughal. It arrested several activists of the Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan including Abdul Rehman and Latif.

Our Larkana correspondent adds: The Larkana police arrested 20 leaders and workers of the Tehrik-i-Nifaz Fiqhia Jaferia, Sipah-i-Sahaba, and Sunni Tehrik on Saturday.

The Shahdadkot police arrested seven workers of the Sipah-i-Sahaba. They were Saeed Ahmed Brohi, M. Amin Magsi, Nadeem Bughio, Abdul Wahab Bughio, Abdul Samad Brohi, Abdul Wahab Mastoi, and M. Nawaz Buriro. Two of its workers — Maulvi M. Ishaque Channa and Khalid Hussain Dayo — were arrested from Mirokhan Taluka.

Maulana Ghulam Shabir Malano, Syed Pir Shah, and Nawaz Ali Siyal of the Tehrik-i-Nifaz Fiqhia Jaferia were arrested from Dokri and Badah towns, while Syed Mehtab Shah and Maulana Ali Nawaz Qasmi of the Sunni Tehrik were arrested from Larkana city.

The names of the remaining six could not be ascertained.

Our Sanghar correspondent adds: Police sealed the offices of the Lashkar-i-Taiba, the Jaish-i-Mohammad, the Tehrik-i-Jaferia Pakistan, the Tanzim Nifaz Shariat-i-Mohammadi and the Sipah-i-Sahaba on Sunday.

There was nobody at the offices when the police went there.

Similar operations were carried out in Shahdadpur, Tando Adam, and Sinjhoro.
