A new song has been released from Baaji and it has a surprise appearance by Mehwish Hayat.

The song, 'Gangster Guriya', features the star strutting around in edgy leather outfits and dancing her heart out, She's seen showing off her dance moves in different settings, from a throne to a garage with smoke and fire billowing around.

And the lyrics are just as badass as the video! "You can't touch this body, I am a gangster guriya" give off some serious rebellious feels.

Item songs are heavily debated on, with some critiquing them for feeding the male gaze and objectifying women and others supporting them for allowing women to own their sexuality.

With item songs like 'Billi' (Na Maloom Afraad) and 'Chirrya' (Chhalawa) under her belt, Hayat is no stranger to this debate and has often voiced her support for them. In a recent interview with BBC Asia, when asked if she regrets doing the item song 'Billi', Hayat clearly said she doesn't.

She also added "I think that's what movies are, you create a magical world. For two hours you want to escape, you want to see romance, dance and colours, it's part of the entertainment. So I don't think there is anything wrong with it, the aim is to entertain people".

The creative director and the lyricist for the song is Osman Khalid Butt, the music is by Taha Malik and the vocals are by Sunidhi Chohan. The cast includes Osman Khalid Butt, Amna Ilyas, Meera, Ali Kazmi and Nayyar Ejaz in pivotal roles.

Baaji hits cinemas on 28 June.

So... I don't like this. I like Mehvish Hayat but her movements seem so robotic and stiff. Dance should seem natural and flowy. Dancing remains foreign to our culture so maybe that's why. I personally love dance as arts and watch videos online sometimes - usually American contemporary hip hop stuff etc. Its amazing and I hope more of our youngsters will pursue this arts as it's simply fascinating how you can make your body move like that. I was pleased to learn a Pakistani hiphop dance teacher is teaching in Turkey i believe. With dance start young and really practise it. I am not into Bollywood dance and find it just meh...but the modern contemporary dance is amazing. Many Koreans and Chinese also master them. Watch them. They are so talented.

@Ali Sabir : President Arif Alvi and Naeem Ul Haq will surely be offended by your comment. That being said I absolutely agree with you.

It is rather amazing those that condemn "item numbers" watched them in private repeatedly but yet scream about how bad they or pathetic they are ?

the song is catchy and actually the video has her less sexualized than billi etc. So not sure why this is a item song? But her dance moves are very stiff showing that she either is a bad dancer or uncomfortable in those leather clothes. But then again a lot of dance aesthetics come from the fabric moves and stiff clothes just look so bad.

actually this video sexualises male bodies more than females. Women are more covered and not having those kamar shots etc. while men have very idealized body types. But still I think the clothes are revealing by Pak standards thus the video may come off as vulgar. Sloppy dance moves btw
