RAWALPINDI: A woman was killed and seven people, including two children, were injured when the passenger van they were travelling in collided with a roadside pillar near Company Bagh on the G.T. Road on Sunday.

Police and rescue services said all the injured were taken to the Holy Family Hospital (HFH), where four are stated to be in critical condition.

A passenger van with nine people on board was headed to Rawalpindi from Murree. It collided with a roadside pillar after its brakes collapsed, resulting in the immediate death of Farrukh, 35, a lady health worker who lived in Charsadda. Eight other passengers, including eight-year-old Mishal, were injured.

The victims were pulled out of the vehicle by rescuers and taken to a nearby hospital. They were later moved to HFH in Rawalpindi. All of the victims were residents of Charsadda who were on their way to Rawalpindi after visiting Murree.

Separately, a woman was killed and nine people were injured when the van they were travelling in turned over near Mandra on the way to Rawalpindi. The injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, and their condition was reported to be stable.
